Fantasy Gold Bond Makes the Big Bucks

As I write this post, a "restored" Gold Bond Lantern listed on eBay has a high bid north of $150.00, with days to go.

I would not buy this. I'd rather have the real thing. But that's me. Apparently someone would be happy to buy this and is willing to toss out a pretty good chunk of change.

So, good on you eBay seller ***j48***. It looks like you do a fine rebuild, repainting like a true Gold Bond. And you state as much in the listing so everybody knows what they are getting. Find a need and fill it, I got no problem with that.

But I would ask one thing: Take out your metal marking letter punch set, I'd use an "F" for Fantasy, a "G" for Gold and a "B" for Bond and give us a nice big FGB on the bottom. That way the same rig won't show up on eBay as an authentic Gold Bond in a couple of months.

Spotted this Gold Bond, with box, over on eBay. Gotta nasty chip on the hood, otherwise a keeper.

Seller says: "This an extremely nice vintage Coleman 200A704 Goldbond lantern with the original box with extra mantles. It was purchased at an estate sale in Iowa. The lantern is a single burner lantern. I have not tested the unit but it is in extremely nice shape. The date on the bottom reads 2 - 1973. The ventilator does have some small chips as shown in one of the pictures. I can not find any rust on this lantern."

Very Nice Gold Bond Lantern at Auction Ending 5/19

Everybody who knows us knows we love Gold Bonds. This one is not perfect, but pretty nice. Auction ends next Thursday, 5/19. No rust. Both valves turn smoothly. Coleman 550 globe good. Gas cap smooth and clean inside. A few small chips in the enamel paint on top and bottom (none larger than 1/8"). Top nut screws off easily, not rusted.

Coleman 200a - Gold Bond Lantern

Very nice Gold Bond 200A up at eBay...just a few dings on the hood it looks like. These gold lanterns were made for the Gold Bond Trading Stamp company and not too many. Hard to find in this condition.

eBay Hot Sale - Week 3/2007

"Wow! That's a lot of money!" My exact thoughts when I saw the closing price on this 1973 Gold Bond 200A which ended 1/16. For those not familiar with the Gold Bond, it's a gold-color Coleman 200A that was made for the Gold Bond Trading Stamp Company in the early to mid 70s. My mother used to save Gold Bond stamps, also Blue Chip stamps, and the green ones. But she never traded them for a cool gold lantern. I think she got a red fondue pot. and bongo drums.
Anyway, the Gold Bond 200A is a pretty scarce lantern, but you'll see one or two a month on eBay. They generally settle in the $300 to $500 range depending on how flush the bidder is. And by flush I mean drunk.
The buyer of this latest Gold Bond was bombed out of his mind and the gavel came down at $921.11. Wow, that's a lot of money for a lantern that has been used (despite the sellers claims otherwise) and with a chip in the hood. I think its going to take a lot of sake to make the sweetheart pretty again.
